- Gary's super file wipe program. Copyright 1993 Gary Jeffers
- version 1.00.
-
- SUPERWIPE may be classified as a file wipe program.
- This program's purpose is to obliterate a file and all of its
- associated information. The usual wipe program will wipe one
- file per program call. SUPERWIPE does a lot more! SUPERWIPE
- will wipe several files at one time. It also takes wildcards.
- Several files and wildcards may be put on the command line
- per call. SUPERWIPE will default to one write(all 1's), but may
- be instructed to do from 1 to 9 writes. When more than one write
- is selected, SUPERWIPE will alternate "all 1's" writes with
- "all 0's" writes.
-
- SUPERWIPE can be used on a disk partition ( such as c: d: e: etc..)
- or on a diskette. In fact for wild cards & individual files, you can
- have SUPERWIPE do wipes on several different disk partitions &
- diskettes in one run.
-
- SUPERWIPE also sets the wiped file to a file of zero bytes in
- order that a snooper not be able to get the file size information.
- If you choose to use the work file option, a one alphabetic letter
- chosen from a to z, then the name of the wiped files is gone and
- the snooper cannot get the name as a clue.
-
- To choose the optional work file, use a /n with one of the
- letters of the alphabet. To use a as the work file you would type
- /na. To us k as the work file you would type /nk etc..
-
- SUPERWIPE defaults to one write, but you can choose from 1 to 9
- wipes. To choose: type /n (n being a number from 1 to 9) on the
- command line. To call for 3 wipes, type /3, for 5 wipes, type /5
- etc...NOTE: SUPERWIPE will always do at least one wipe in all cases,
- but for more than one wipe you must make sure that there are no
- disk caches enabled in your configuration file (config.sys). To
- do multiple wipes when you have a disk cache program in your config.sys,
- I would recommend that you disable the cache by editing your config
- file so that REM with a space after it was typed at the beginning of
- the disk cache line. Then you would need to reboot your computer.
- Later, when you wanted to reenable the disk cache, you could delete
- the REM letters and reboot.
-
- One wipe will probably be plenty good except in those cases
- in which industrial espionage is feared or in which the user lives
- in a tyrannical state or in the general case in which the snoop
- is very technologically sophisticated. In these latter three cases,
- I would recommend at least 3 wipes with the disk cache disabled.
-
- The REGISTERED version of SUPERWIPE also has an option "/old"
- to wipe all the old deleted files on the disk. Many programs,
- including some word processors, use temporary work files. After
- the program is done, the deleted files are still on the disk.
- To choose old delete option, type /old on the command line.
- With SUPERWIPE's /old option, you can get rid of all of them!
-
-
- This program is SHAREWARE. If you like & continue to use this
- program, then please send me $21 for registration. The registered
- version does not contain the guilt msg at the beginning of its
- execution & has the "/OLD" option to give you extra security.
-
- Please send $21 in check or preferrable in money order(faster
- delivery) to:

- ADVANTAGES OF REGISTRATION FOLLOW:
-
- When you register, you will receive a registered version, that
- in addition to the above capabilities, will allow you to:
-
- 1: Wipe out all previously erased or deleted files! (The /OLD option.)
-
- The registered version will also have a nicer execution message
- that will lack the plea for money.
-
- You are probably wondering why you would want the capability to
- wipe out all previously deleted files. There are two reasons: one
- fairly obvious; one not.
-
- Firstly, those old deleted files may be sensitive & you forgot
- to wipe them properly. Or maybe, you were busy at an earlier time
- & did not take the time to properly wipe all the sensitive files.
- Or, you may not remember wheather you wiped or erased a sensitive
- file. With the /OLD option, you can be sure that they are all wiped!
-
- Secondly, many programs, including some word processors, make
- temporary files that are used to assist that program in its work.
- When the program is done, those programs are deleted. Ordinarily,
- this is fine, but it does leave a security hole. The /OLD option
- will wipe out all of them!
-
- Note: Since the /OLD option must go through the entire "unused"
- disk partition or diskette, it may take several minutes to complete.
-
- 2. Registered users, will also be notified of improved versions
- of SUPERWIPE.
-
- 3. Upgrades, at least for the next upgrade, will only be $10.
-
- 4. Registered users will also receive telephone support.
-
-
- 5. Also, the registered user will have a clear conscience & will
- use SUPERWIPE with a feeling of sublime legitimacy!
-
- Site liscenses are also available.
-
-
- Invocation syntax wipe filename1 filename2 ... wildcard1 wildcard2 ...
- /(no. of wipes) /n(name of alternate file) /old(wipe all old deletes
- on disk)
- The order of the tokens does not matter.
- examples:
- w my.fil new.fil /old *.exe next????.com /5 /na
- w this.fil /2 wild????.exe /nc anot????.com second.fil
- w that????.* /nk last.fil /old
